Manifesto: Join the Rebellion Against Statistical Obscurantism

The Wizards of the Ivory Tower have spent generations weaving common sense into spellbooks of Greek letters and arcane formulas. They tell you that statistical reasoning is only for the initiated—those who can chant the right incantations and penetrate the algebraic labyrinth.

They lie.

Statistics is not sorcery. It’s a set of practical tools for uncovering truth in noisy worlds—tools anyone can wield with clarity, courage, and curiosity. Guerilla Statistics exists to arm ordinary people with those tools.

We are the guerillas of reason. We learn in the open air, not the cloistered tower. We strip away jargon, we experiment, we visualize, we play. Our goal is simple but radical: make inferential reasoning a human birthright, not an academic privilege.

Revolutionary Features

Stats learning gets a radical remix—explore what makes Guerilla Statistics explosively different.

In every generation, wizards hide simplicity behind symbols. They cloak the path to truth with near-mystical symbology, stretch axes to exaggerate, conjure central tendencies to disguise variation. Darrell Huff warned us about them in How to Lie with Statistics—and we treat his classic exposé as a field manual for defense…one of many.

Our Weapons: Curiosity, Clarity, and Code

We fight obscurity with exploration. Each lesson you take here unveils the wizard’s tricks: truncated scales, selective samples, missing baselines, and misplaced confidence. You’ll learn to spot these deceptions, dismantle them, and build honest representations of data yourself.

Exploration first: Before any formula, we look. Tukey’s Exploratory Data Analysis taught us that the eye and the plot come before the equation. Every module begins with hands-on play—splitting values in a spreadsheet, sketching distributions, seeing patterns appear.

Simulation over memorization: Instead of learning the calculus underlying distributions, you’ll watch them emerge by resampling data in R or Python.

Modern methods: Estimation, effect sizes, and reproducibility replace rote significance testing. We follow the “New Statistics” movement to make inference intuitive and transparent.

Computation as craft: R for openness, Python for versatility—two dialects of the same guerilla language.

Radical Progress Tracker (except I haven’t built this yet, so your own your own recognizance)

Watch your stats skills grow faster than a protest crowd! Our tracker turns every win into a reason to celebrate (or maybe riot, peacefully).

Key Course Topics

The Guerilla Path: Explore Our Courses

Scouting the Terrain — Exploratory Data Analysis

Learn to interrogate raw data. Draw boxplots and stem-and-leafs. See how values split and recombine. Find out what “spread” really means and how it anchors inference, a fulcrum for the levers of power.

The First Skirmish — Hypothesis Testing Without Fear

Understand the dance between randomness and regularity through shuffles, bootstraps, and dice. We plunge into the world of the mysterious NULL and realize what they’ve been hiding is nothing at all! No formulas until intuition is solid.

Revealing the Patterns — ANOVA and Experimental Design (Party Crashers Welcome)

When groups collide, who truly differs? Let’s bring everyone to the party, then find out who’s really shaking up the stats scene. Multi-group comparisons, but with a groove. These modules adapt my graduate-level lectures, re-forged into visual, interactive form.

Multiple Regression and Interaction: Scaling Up to Predict the Revolution

Draw lines, break molds! Predict trends with style and learn to rebel against boring forecasts. We will build models that think graphically. Use added-variable and CERES plots to reveal hidden influences and curvature. Models come alive again in JavaScript notebooks.

Advanced Ops: Machine Learning

Join the counterculture of code. Train models, challenge authority, and let algorithms do the heavy lifting. Learn how machine-learning ideas grow naturally from classical inference once the notation fog clears.

Advanced Ops: Multivariate Mayhem and the Multilevel Algorithm Underground

Embrace beautiful chaos! Analyze multiple variables at once and make sense of the madness. Peer through the murky mists to which multiple levels of structure can and massive amounts of data can give rise.

Join the Stats Revolution!

Ready to throw off the chains of boring statistics? Track your progress, connect with fellow radicals, and dive into stats with a revolutionary twist. The movement starts with you—are you in?

What Our Learners Say

Bold, brilliant, and a bit rebellious—hear from those who joined the stats revolution!

(eventually…I just made these up)

Who knew statistics could be this much fun? Guerilla Statistics empowered me with the confidence to plan an insurgency at a major tech company without resorting to pedestrian tactics like blackmail. Hypothesis testing has never felt so groovy!

Samira L.

The real world examples, community vibes, and gratuitous references to Emma Goldman kept me coming back for more, and I feel ready to embarrass my supervisors with phrases like “zero-inflated Poisson Distribution”.

Alex R.

I never thought I’d enjoy learning stats, but here we are! I found my people and my confidence with Guerilla Statistics, and I am now addicted to clarity and truth instead of social media algorithms and gluten.

It’s like the 1960s revolutionaries were put in suspended animation and have been awakened to leverage all the power of the data age. Let’s hope that the ideas of Herbert Marcuse and tie dyed underwear follow.
